Got down to the beach to see the red flags flying warning of high surf and flags warning of Portugese Man O War jellyfish as well. We had 2 hours to get out before the gear was due back so we went for it even though the wind was light.

5.4 and Thommen X85 again but today the wind was a better direction to get through the reef. A good job too as the waves on the outside were massive, breaking at mast high. Got drilled on a few of the smaller ones but managed to negotiate my way out back with a few chicken gybes and some bearing off. The wind was getting very light so I called it a day.

Sailing back in I passed my mate Nick in the water trying to water start and indicated I was heading back. Little did I realise, but he'd been rolled by a wave and, whilst trying to waterstart, another wave pounded him. Unfortunately it took out Dorota the Polish formula racer and her fin ripped his sail from luff to leach. A friendly kite surfer helped drag Nick back in with his gear but the delay made it fairly tight getting the gear back and catching the flight. Having said that I'd quite happily stay on Maui given the choice.

An excellent trip and I will definitely be back.
